Synopsis
A standout at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, “The Girl with the Needle” is a dark tale of one woman’s search for tenderness and morality in a cruel world. At once eerie and exquisite, writer-director Magnus von Horn’s latest film follows young factory worker Karoline as she struggles to survive in post-war Copenhagen. When she finds herself unemployed, abandoned, and pregnant, the charismatic Dagmar takes her on to help her run an illegal adoption agency with unwanted children. The two women form an unexpected bond until a sudden revelation changes everything. Based on a chilling true story, The Girl with the Needle presents a masterful gothic vision with deep contemporary resonance. The Best International Feature Film award at the 97th Danish Academy Awards® also includes EFA-nominated performances by Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm, stunning cinematography by EO’s Michał Dymek, and a captivating score by Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary).
